Some crazy scary Bioshock cosplay pictures

The Bioshock series of games has given cosplay fans the opportunity to dress as several of the characters found in the game. The clear winning cosplay choice is adorning a Big Daddy costume or a Little Sister dress. Those girls in game were pretty evil but turned out to be sweet little dears in the end.... right?

The best Elizabeth of Bioshock cosplay you've ever seen

This is possibly the best Bioshock cosplay we've seen. Popular cosplayer Vera Green has taken on Bioshock Infinite's Elizabeth, modeled on the very popular Burial at Sea DLC.

You can check out Elizabeth costumes on Amazon if you want to recreate the look.

We'll always have a soft spot for Elizabeth, particularly this cosplay effort of the lass!

What Elizabeth looks like in BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea

If you've been living under the ocean in a decrepit, leaky city you may not have heard that Bioshock Infinite is about to have its first lot of DLC called Burial at Sea.

Irrational Games has released a picture of what Elizabeth will look like so that cosplayers can get on the action asap:

Here's what they had to say:

Recently, we’ve been getting a bunch of requests from the cosplay community to see Elizabeth’s entire new Rapture outfit from BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea in order to create the perfect cosplay, and we’re here to fulfill that request with the image below of Elizabeth from various angles. Hopefully this reference will help get those sewing machines started, and we look forward to seeing all those talented cosplays at future conventions and photo shoots.

Bioshock Infinite "1999 Mode" unlock code

You may have heard Bioshock Infinite allows gamers that finish the game on any skill level will get access to the game’s “1999 Mode”, a deliberately insanely difficult challenge for veteran FPS players.

If you don't feel like slugging it out on the normal run through first, a code has been found that let's you play Infinite in 1990 Mode at your first campaign run through (I'm such a Halo geek, I don't think Bioshock run through count as campaigns)

How to get the code?

At the game's main menu, if you press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Cancel, Confirm, you’ll unlock the mode

If the code sounds familiar, that's because it's very similar to the infamous Konami code.

Bioshock Infinite - game of the year already?

songbird

Here's a some snippets from the first reviews of Bioshock: Infinite which some punters are already calling the game of the year.

Here's what Game Informer had to say:

"Dealing with themes like religion, racism, and xenophobia, Columbia is a richer and more nuanced setting than even Rapture, and the unveiling of the city’s culture is masterfully executed.

Whether you’re looking at a piece of propaganda, listening to an audio log, or participating in a horrifying raffle, almost everything you encounter contributes to your understanding of the floating world.

This is one of the ingenious ways Infinite blurs the lines between its component parts; Columbia may be a backdrop for the action, but the setting, narrative, and combat all loop back to reinforce each other.

My favorite aspect of Infinite is the one about which I can say the least: story. The build-up is slow, but it works wonderfully thanks to the small ways other elements flow into the narrative. Elizabeth’s observations help you get to know her, and when she assists you in battle, it strengthens your connection to her.

Opening tears keeps you thinking about the possibilities of other realities. Hearing the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” being sung in 1912 reminds you that you have a lot of questions that need answers. My only complaint on the narrative front is that the hulking Songbird is under-utilized; for such a cool concept, the beast is relegated to the role of screeching deus ex machina. Otherwise, Irrational ties the remaining story threads together to create one of my favorite game endings in years."

How many miles of code went into producing Bioshock Infinite?

You may have heard there's a new Bioshock game on the way. It's called Infinite and here's an infographic that was put together by the production team to show what kind of effort has gone into making the game. I love the statistic about how many miles of code have gone into it!

I also love how 18 children were born during the game's development!

Can you imagine the original Bioshock without the Big Daddies on every level?

Some Bioshock cosplay
In this interview with Ken Levine about the forthcoming Bioshock Infinite, he talked about the issues they had shaping and developing that game’s character Elizabeth and how some fellow game creators wanted to cut her from the game.

As part of that he said "I would be in reviews and ask ‘Where is Elizabeth?' and they would say, 'Oh, she's in a closet,'" Levine said.

"The same with (BioShock's) Big Daddy. I actually had to insist that there were three Big Daddies in every level."

Can you imagine the original Bioshock without the Big Daddies on every level? Looking back it would seem such an odd thing Ken needed to insist on being in the game as the Big Daddies were such an integral part of the game. They were so much fun to bring down – it was extremely satisfying setting traps for them!

While good design and planning is crucial to making great video games, this nugget of info from Ken shows that you need leaders who know what they want and leaders who have the ability to get what they want into their games.

Songbird: Truth or Legend?

Irrational Games have released this Bioshock Infinite teaser about the legend of the Songbird - is the Songbirds task to protect the floating city of Columbia from those that threaten it? Or, is there perhaps a dark secret involving a child that must never leave the floating idyll? What is the truth and what is the legend? Time will tell....

Bioshock Infinite's alternative cover artwork

Bioshock Infinite's alternative cover artwork revealed

Bioshock Infinite's official cover art stirred some debate when it was first revealed so Irrational Games swiftly responded to that and here is an alternative cover for the game that will come with the game when you buy it - so if you want this very cool piece of art, you'll simply need to reverse the dust jacket.

That winged creature is Infinite's equivalent to a Big Daddy or Big Sister, the Songbird who seems set to reap a lot of winged havoc in the game if the trailers are anything to go by!

Keeping abreast of Elizabeth in Bioshock: Infinite

elizabeth in game in bioshock infinite

According to Ken Levine, whose team at Irrational Games are developing the new Bioshock Infinite game, fan boys are way too obsessed with main character Elizabeth's breast size.

That's right.

He recently talked to OXM and revealed this thought about the mammary issue "in terms of her body type, I think certainly people on the Internet have spent way more time thinking about Elizabeth's chest than I have. It's something I've barely thought about."

Note he said barely. Which is an interesting choice of word if you think about it. He also thus admits he DID at least think about Elizabeth's breast size.

I bet the designers put a lot of thought into their size though. You can imagine them going "Not too much.... a good hand full at least, be tasteful but titillate...."

Levine said "It's disappointing when appearance becomes a focus for conversation, because that was never my intent and it's sort of a disincentive. I'd much rather talk about what she's going through as a person, but whatever. They have the right to shout out whatever they want."

This amuses me greatly as the championing a female character's assets has become the thing to do in the gaming industry. Cortana from Halo, Miranda and co from Mass Effect, Bayonetta and a whole host of other female leads have their boobs emphasised. Not to forget a whole legion of characters from the Final Fantasy series.

Beauty is where you find it and Levine has this to say:

"To me, the most important thing with Elizabeth was just honestly her eyes because, you know, they're somewhat exaggerated and the reason for that is because there's so much expression you can do there, with her eyes, and you see her often at a great distance".

Stop digging bro, stop digging.
